From First Sip to Full Escape

What began with a single sip of wine—crafted from Georgia’s native Muscadine grapes—has blossomed into Chateau Elan: a luxurious, award-winning resort in the rolling hills of North Georgia. Spanning 3,500 acres, our destination blends Old World charm with Southern hospitality, featuring 50,000 square feet of event space, celebrated restaurants, championship Golf and Racquet Clubs, a world-class spa, and our signature Viking Culinary Studio.

Our Founding Story

Chateau Elan was founded by Donald and Nancy Panoz—visionaries whose journey began in West Virginia and took them around the world. After meeting and serving together in the U.S. military in Japan, the couple moved to Ireland in 1969, where Donald founded the groundbreaking Elan Corporation. Their shared spirit of innovation and curiosity eventually led them to Georgia, where they reimagined what a winery—and a resort—could be.

Turning Vision into Legacy

A visit to Georgia to tour one of Elan Corporation’s research labs sparked an unexpected inspiration. Donald and Nancy Panoz saw an opportunity to bring the same level of innovation and excellence that built their pharmaceutical success into the world of winemaking. Fueled by a passion for experimentation and a drive to create something truly unique, they developed Chateau Elan—a pioneering winery and resort, and the first of its kind in the region since Prohibition.

Our Environmental Initiatives

Charging Stations

Charging Stations

There are now eight electric vehicle charging stations for guests to use at no cost, with the exception of valet parking charges. Six of the chargers are designed specifically for Tesla vehicles and two are universal chargers. New, more efficient Dyson electric hand dryers are installed in many public restrooms at the Inn to reduce the use of paper.

Tent Cards

Tent Cards

There are tent cards in each guest room encouraging guests to reuse bath towels. We change bed linens every three days unless the guest requests otherwise. If the guest prefers to have their linens changed daily, they may simply leave the tent card on the bed.

Waste Pro

Waste Pro

Waste Pro is providing one-stream recycling dumpsters for the Hotel, Winery, Golf, and Paddy’s Pub. This means all recyclables (office paper, newspapers, magazines, cans, bottles, plastic, glass, small cardboard containers, etc.) can be intermixed into these new containers. These are serviced weekly.

Recycling Programs

Recycling Programs

We are expanding our aluminum, glass, and plastic recycling programs. We are expanding our composting projects to reduce waste and create more nutrient-rich soil. To conserve electricity, we are exploring introducing motion-sensor lighting in guest rooms.
