The largest American wine competition in the world started out in California as a small event at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair, back in 1983. In 2000, the competition found a new partnership in the San Francisco Chronicle, a newspaper serving the bay area of Northern California since 1865. The event has taken place in San Francisco since that time, and over the past 22 years, the competition has grown massive in size. Today, the competition sees more than 7,000 wine entries in a year.
