southern styleWith a European Twist

What began decades ago with a sip of Muscadine wine made from Georgia’s indigenous Muscadine grapes has evolved into Chateau Elan, a luxurious, award-winning winery and resort in the rolling hills of north Georgia. Across 3,500 acres, our destination resort and residential community features 50,000 square feet of event space, multiple restaurants, professionally staffed Golf and Racquet Clubs, a world-class spa, and Viking Culinary Studio.

HistoryHow it began

Chateau Elan was founded by Donald and Nancy Panoz, who met in West Virginia and began their life together serving in the U.S. military in Japan. Entrepreneurs at heart, they moved to Ireland in 1969, where Donald formed Elan Corporation.

A trip to Georgia to visit one of the pharmaceutical company’s research labs inspired the couple to bring the same discipline and high standards that created Elan Pharmaceuticals to the wine industry. Their passion for experimentation and entrepreneurship led the development of our landmark resort and winery, the first of its kind in the region since Prohibition.

Going Green

Environmental InitiativesNew Projects

There are now eight electric vehicle charging stations for guests to use at no cost, with the exception of valet parking charges. Six of the chargers are designed specifically for Tesla vehicles and two are universal chargers.
New, more efficient Dyson electric hand dryers are installed in many public restrooms at the Inn to reduce the use of paper.

Environmental InitiativesLinen program

There are tent cards in each guest room encouraging guests to reuse bath towels.

We change bed linens every three days unless the guest requests otherwise. If the guest prefers to have their linens changed daily, they may simply leave the tent card on the bed.

Environmental InitiativesRecycling

Waste Pro is providing one-stream recycling dumpsters for the Hotel, Winery, Golf, and Paddy’s Pub. This means all recyclables (office paper, newspapers, magazines, cans, bottles, plastic, glass, small cardboard containers, etc.) can be intermixed into these new containers. These are serviced weekly.

We are expanding our composting projects to reduce waste and create more nutrient-rich soil.
To conserve electricity, we are exploring introducing motion-sensor lighting in guest rooms.

Environmental InitiativesTesla Charge

We are excited to collaborate with Tesla to provide complimentary charging stations for Tesla owners. Tesla charging technology can add up to 58 miles of range per hour of charge.

Environmental InitiativesConservation

Across the resort, we have installed 3,294 LED energy-saving light bulbs, allowing us to conserve 164,700 watts on energy.
Many restrooms feature motion-sensor lighting to automatically conserve electricity.
